Is That Light Up Ahead?

I know that it is hard to complain when you are hanging out in a beautiful, colonial city with great food and people, but we are not in Ecuador yet.

Yet is the operative word, however, as Ecuador now has a schedule for reopening the country to international flights which is June 1st. That means that we are arranging for a container to ship our van to Ecuador as we speak.

Once we have the details of which port and what day we are shipping we will be able to arrange the flight which may require us to pass a PCR Covid-19 test within 72 hours of our flight and a quick test on arrival. There is talk of them backing off the PCR test as it is difficult or impossible to get in some countries. We will see.

I would love to know if we were exposed or not. The downside to them not requiring the test would be a 5 day quarantine at our own cost. Either way we are ready to move on to the next step.

While we have been in San Cristobal de las Casas we have had our fingerprints done and sent off to the US for criminal checks for our Ecuador visas. That is the last step in the process so when we arrive we can get our permanent resident visas and stay as long as we want.

We are hoping that the first couple of weeks of flights go well as we are shooting for the 20th or so.

Wish us good fortune.

Peace and love peeps and more soon....

Backtracking A Bit And Work To Do

As much as we have enjoyed our time at Mision Surf we have stuff we need to do that is nearly impossible at the beach. That includes a pull everything out, clean the salt off of it and get it repacked thing.

Our destination next Monday is San Cristobal de las Casas which has high temperatures right about where the lows at night are here at the ocean. We are renting an apartment for a month for $372.
that has way more space than we need.

The other work we have is trying to complete our visas for Ecuador since we have all of this free time and reliable wifi and access to other services is critical in doing that work.

Why didn't you guys just finish the visas before? The main reason was that we will only be able to be out of Ecuador for 90 days a year for the first 2 years and we were doing an awesome driving adventure which was going to take more time than that.

Now we are just trying to have a home country to go to that doesn't scare us. That is the deal. Our visa people have skills and know every exception and we hope to find a way to get there which will require shipping the van from Mexico and flying to Ecuador and likely a 2 week quarantine while we wait for the van to arrive by ship.

It doesn't seem complicated at all, does it.

We will soon be moving to Telcel for our phones so get the whatsapp app on your phones because we are going to keep our phone numbers on whatsapp. TMobile is kicking us off for too long data roaming later in the month so we don't really have any other options.

This is likely still better than many of you have it now. We have freedom of movement that we have chosen to minimize, but we do have it.

Stay well and more soon. Peace and love peeps.

Looking Like A Long Wait

The latest out of the countries we need to have change is nearly no change which means more waiting.

Ecuador is moving slowly towards opening some business, but the borders remain closed with no update on when that will change.

Guatemala also is easing some restrictions but not opening any borders either. The odds are that we will most likely be shipping from Mexico to Ecuador anyway as to continue the drive requires seven countries to open their borders instead of one.

A return to the US to wait doesn't seem like a good idea since we don't have a house to return to and public land for camping is virtually all closed. The expense of waiting in the US is also significantly higher.

That means that we have to think about k about whether to stay where we are currently or move to a different location. It seems like we have as safe a place as we can where we are for now so we will stay as long as it makes sense to do so.

That's it for now. Peace and love peeps and more soon...
